BRIGATA REGINA

 (THE QUEEN BRIGADE)

Per documentarmi su questa figura (avuta in omaggio senza indicazioni di sorta) l’ho prima di tutto cercata nel sito del produttore, Cibo's little Dudes, e l’ho trovata nel gruppo comando sardo “della regina”.

Allora ho googlato “reggimento regina” ed ho trovato questa immagine:

To document this figure (received free but without any info) first of all I looked in the manufacturer website, Cibo's little Dudes, and I found it in the Sardinian Queen Regiment command group.

Then googling “reggimento regina” I found this picture:

C’è un problema, però, wikipedia mi informa che le mostreggiature del reggimento Regina sono BIANCHE. Tanto che il suo motto è:

"Sicut te candidi candidissima Regina"

"Come te candidi, candidissima regina"

Qui qualcosa non va.

But there is an issue, wikipedia, informs me that the 

reggimento Regina distinctions are WHITE. Moreover its motto is:

"Sicut te candidi candidissima Regina"

"candid like you, very white queen"

Ho trovato la soluzione sull’ottimo quaderno L'Armata Sarda nella Prima Guerra d'Indipendenza, 1848-1849. Qui ho scoperto che le caratteristiche peculiari della divisa del 1849 erano: kepi foderato di rosso, pantaloni bigi e mostreggiature cremisi unificate per tutti i reggimenti di fanteria! In effetti i reggimenti si distinguevano solo per il numero sul kepi e quello in figura porta il numero 9!

...ed il nono ed il decimo fanteria erano infatti inquadrati nella brigata Regina.

The solution was found in the good booklet: L'Armata Sarda nella Prima Guerra d'Indipendenza, 1848-1849.  Here I found that the peculiar characteristics of the uniform of 1849 are: kepi lined in red, gray trousers and crimson distinctions, unified for all infantry regiments! In fact the regiments only difference is the number on the kepi and the one in the picture has number 9!

... and the 9th and 10th Infantry Regiments were grouped under the ""Queen Brigade"

Tutto torna. Così la figura è quella di un soldato della Brigata Regina, ma la divisa potrebbe essere quella di una qualsiasi altra brigata di fanteria. Queste informazioni si trovano anche nel museo virtuale dell’Esercito. L’avessi visto prima…

Everything fits. So in the picture we have an infantryman from the Queen Brigade, but the livery could be from any other infantry brigade. This information can be found in the virtual Army museum. I had better seeing it earlier...

L’altra peculiarità è la coccarda italiana tricolore (prima era azzurro Savoia) sul kepì. Con il rosso all’esterno ed il verde all’interno. Ben poco contrasto, con il rosso del kepì. Ma non credo i problemi di pittura dei modellisti più di un secolo dopo siano stati fattori decisivi nella scelta!

The other peculiarity is the Italian tricolor cockade (at first was Savoy blue) on the kepì. With red outside and green inside. Very little contrast with the red of the kepi. But I do not think the modelers painting issues from more than a century in the future had been a deciding factor in the choice!

Roba da perdere la vista. Comunque, ora è finito:

Per qualche strano motivo lo scultore si è dimenticato di scolpire le due tasche sul verso della tunica, ciascuna coi suoi 3 bottoni. Comunque niente che non si possa risolvere dipingendo due "parentesi graffe" cremisi e due tocchi di colore metallico (il terzo bottone resta coperto dalla cintura).
For some strange reason the sculptor forgot to sculpt the pockets on the tunic back, each with their 3 buttons. Still nothing that cannot be solved by painting two crimson “braces" and two metallic color touches (the third button is covered by the belt).

Ovviamente, le foto a questa risoluzione mostrano impietosamente le mie impacciate pennellate. Vabbè, visto da un metro di distanza farà un figurone comunque.

Of course, the pictures at this size mercilessly show my clumsy brush strokes. Oh well, seen from a meter away will make a great impression anyway.

Cibo's Little Dudes  

Con la postazione di combattimento finalmente operativa, è giunto il momento di darsi da fare. Quale migliore occasione per collaudare i pennelli, prima di cimentarsi in più ardue imprese, che dipingere il campione omaggio ricevuto da Cibo?

With the battlestation finally operative, it is the time to start some hard work. What a better opportunity to test the brushes, before engaging in the most arduous enterprises, than start painting the free sample figures from Cibo?

Primo lotto pronto, signore! Mi piace incollare le figure su tappi di bottiglia col vinavil, per meglio maneggiarle. C'è da dire che i tappi di sughero sono meglio dei sintetici anche per questo impiego. L'omino sul tappo di gomma continuava a staccarsi.

First batch in position, sir! I like to attach the figures on corks with white glue for an improved handling. I have to say that cork caps are better also in this application. The figure on the synthetic one kept falling all the time.

Fondo nero o fondo bianco? Sarò Salominico ed userò una base grigia! D'altronde dovrò pure usare quella bomboletta di German Grey Tamiya, no? :D

Black undercoat or white undercoat? Well, I will be Solomonic and use a grey undercoat! Let's put to use that Tamiya German Grey can! :D.

Decisamente scuro di pelle, forse fin troppo. Più che uno zuavo sembra un berbero! Vorrà dire che diventerà un tirailleur algérien

Definitely too dark skin tone! More a berber tipe than a zouave! Perhaps he could became a good tirailleur algérien

Per gli altri due è meglio rimediare con un colore meno "abbronzato"

For the two other it is better go for a less "sun tanned" color

Decisamente più ragionevole.

Questa mattina, nella buca delle lettere, ho trovato questa bustona gialla.

Cosa diavolo conterrà? Mi sono chiesto.

Ecco la risposta, alcuni esemplari di soldatini di Cibo!

Giorni fa avevo trovato il sito ciboslittledudes.com ed avevo (ingenuamente) richiesto un campione gratuito.

Ed eccoli qua,

nemmeno c'è voluto tanto. Ovviamente avevo completamente dimenticato la faccenda.

 Visti da dietro.

Devo dire che la qualità è ottima. Non si vedono segni degli stampi e solo un paio avevano un modicum di sbavatura. Il livello di scultura, in una scala da 1 a 5, è... SLURP! La dimensione è 26 mm dalla suola delle scarpe agli occhi. 30 mm fino al chepì.

Lo zuavo è il mio preferito: "Cheese!"

Non riesco ad immaginare modo migliore di iniziare il lunedì che ritrovandosi con dei giocattoli nuovi.

Il problema veramente GROSSO è che, ora, vorranno degli amichetti! Come si fa a lasciarli da soli?!

CIBO's LITTLE DUDES

ITALIAN INDEPENDENCE WARS 

This morning, in the mailbox, I found a big yellow envelope.

WTF, I thought.

Voilà the content. Some of Cibo's little dudes!

Some days ago I found the website ciboslittledudes.com and (foolishly) asked for a free sample. And here it is, 

it even did not take so much. Obviously I completely forgot about that.

Seen from behind.

I have to say they are top quality. I don't see any mould lines and only a couple show some flash. Sculpting, in a scale of 1 to 5, is... SLURP! Dimension is  26 mm from the soles of the shoes to eye level, 30 mm to the chepì's top.

The zuave is my favourite: "Cheese!"

I cannot imagine beeter way to start a monday than finding some new toys.

The HUGE problem is they now want some freinds! How possibly I could let them lonely?
